Feeling Content And Happy As A Parent? Some Of The Ways You Can Do It.

When you find out you are pregnant, your world is completely thrown into chaos. There is no denying it, it is, of course, good chaos, as excitement creeps in and you start to plan you new future as a mom and parents. But, at the same time there is also that feeling of overwhelm, and that can get a little too much at times. You have the ideal that you are going to be a certain type of parent, and let’s be honest, we have all been there. Your child won’t watch TV at all, your child won’t eat sugary snacks, your child won’t play on an iPad, and your child will be well behaved, sleep through the night and be utterly amazing.


You are not alone in thinking all of that, and now that your child is here and your well into this parenting malarkey, you may be thinking that old you was a little crazy as you hand your iPad to your little one to just get five minutes peace. It is all completely normal. The one thing we should all strive to be is happy and content parents. This means that we are less likely to lose it, and more able to parent responsibly. However, how do you get to that feeling of content at the end of the day instead of embracing all of the mom guilt? Here are some suggestions.


A family pet

Sometimes we want to be able to give our children boundaries and show them how to empathise with things. A family pet can do that for you. It gives a new basis to the family dynamic. A dog will need walking and regular exercise, a cat will need love and affection. While introducing a family pet to the family also gives you the opportunity to introduce responsibility and delegate jobs to your children. It can be demeaning on you as a parent, especially when you need to ensure that your new cat has the right toys, for example, a weasel cat toy are purrrfect options. Or whether or not a dog will fit into your lifestyle. But at the same time, it can also have you standing back and feeling content and happy as a parent, as the new pet will bring joy to your children and could even improve your general lifestyles.

Feeling grateful for three things at the end of the night

There is no denying that as a parent there will be days that you don’t feel on top of your game. That is understandable. Not all days are going to be good, and you can often feel all of the guilt because of it. But, as a parent, there will always be a little magic bin everyday. This could be the smile from your child, learning something new, or just getting a chance to enjoy a hot coffee for a few minutes. A great way to appreciate the little things would be to consider feeling grateful for just three things. Think about it before you go to sleep. Look back on your day and highlight the good things, no matter how small or trivial they feel. You will feel so good for doing it.

Planning your days

As a parent, you may now thrive off routine.Not just for your children, but also for yourself. Planning your days can have you feeling so much more content and happy as a parent. You know what to expect, nothing catches you off guard, and if it does, you have the energy levels banked up in order to handle those situations. At the end of the days, ticking those things off your “to do” list will leave you feeling accomplished and ready for anything.


Cutting yourself some slack

When you are a parent, the one thing you do is give yourself the biggest hard time. We can’t help ourselves. If our children do something wrong, we blame ourselves. If they don’t sleep through the night, we think we have done something to cause it. Mom guilt is so real, and so many of us experience is but yet, none of us massively talk or communicate those feelings with others. It is times to cut yourself some slack. The best advice would be to just let things go and to not sweat the small stuff. If a day has been particularly bad, draw a line under it and appreciate that tomorrow is another day. This too shall pass, as they say.

Not going crazy over eaten vegetables and fruit

Kids will be kids, and sometimes, no matter what you do or how you dress the plate up, they just won’t eat those vegetables or the fruit you have so lovingly prepared. It happens. Some children are great eaters, others are a little fussy, and that is completely normal. Try and not go crazy over it. One day they may eat really well, but others may seem like they just snack all of the time. Take the good with the bad and fremebr, when they are older, they will have developed a much more varied diet naturally anyway.

Putting things into perspective

Let’s face it, as a parent, you gain a lot of perspective and your priorities change. But it can also mean that we can be a little over the top with things and worry or become anxious over events that just don’t need it. Again, a completely normal reaction to parenthood. But try and remember to put things into perspective at the end of the day. If you make it to the end, everyone is fed, you have a roof over your head, then you are winning. Fact!

Making the right decisions for you as well as your children

Finally, often we can be a little worried about the decisions that we make for our children, and often we don’t realise that the decisions we make can have a knock on effect on them. When deciding upon things like working or staying home, school or home school, for example, think about you as well as the kids. Happy mom, happy baby.
